Leadership development and organisational change in a family business

A family-owned logistics company contacted us after their engagement survey indicated a growing gap between the company’s entrepreneurial leadership and its frontline staff. During initial visits to the seven UK and US branches we spoke in confidence to almost all of the company’s staff and managers and presented an incisive report to the General Management Board.

As a result of these findings we were asked to work closely with the company in developing its leadership, communication, teamworking, continuous improvement and engagement capacity at all levels of the business. This included a nine month period of work in which we:

  • enhanced the leadership and mentoring roles of senior Directors;
  • supported the development of a more inclusive and enabling Board culture;
  • introduced teamworking and instigated clearer leadership roles at senior management level;
  • developed leadership and change management competence amongst branch and department managers;
  • instigated a review of working practices in frontline teams;
  • established representative Improvement Groups at branch and country levels.
